Wiley has become known for his ironic “reversal” portrayals of contemporary African-Americans in heroic poses, inspired by historic portraits and photos of the past. Since Wiley’s earliest shows in 2011, he has become one of the most important artists of our time, making his mark on the walls of major museums as well as the minds of the hip-hop generation.
