Summary

  • Los Angeles-based twin artist duo The Perez Bros present toO sWeeT, a group exhibition honoring the artistic voices that have shape their community
  • Now on view at Thinkspace Projects through September 27, the exhibition features 50 artists working across mediums

Twin artists Alejandro and Vicente Perez, better known together as The Perez Bros, are raising a glass to the friends and fellow artists who fuel their practice in a new exhibition on view at Thinkspace Projects in Los Angeles. Curated by the duo, the show gathers paintings, sculptures, photographs and mixed-media works from 50 names for a heartfelt tribute to their artistic community.

Titled toO sWeeT, the show takes titular cues from a hand gesture popularized in the 1990s by wrestling faction New World Order. What began as a backstage sign of camaraderie and brotherhood, later blossomed into a more expansive symbol for unity, serving as a fit metaphor for themes of connection, memory and humanity that underpin the show.

Highlights include “Dinner on the Yellow Stain,” a mixed-media piece by Deanna Barahona, as well as Matt McCormick‘s cinematic “Moonlit Confidence (Take Another Pass At It)” oil on linen and the apocalyptic overtones in Manuel Zamudio’s “Mañana.” Elsewhere, No Fear’s iconic angry eyes meets Alexandre Cabanel’s “The Fallen Angel” in a graphic-realist composition by James Supa Medrano, while Thalia Gochez lenses a tender portrait of Californian youth. True to their motor-head roots, the brothers have also assembled works that nod to car culture, with contributions from Estevan Oriol, Julian Pace, Sean Hamilton, Tanner Goldbeck and Vanessa Torrez.

toO sWeeT, curated by The Perez Bros, is now on view in Los Angeles through September 27. Read on for the full list of names featured in the exhibition.
