Summary

  • The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) opens November 1, housing over 100,000 artifacts
  • Located near the Giza pyramids, it’s the world’s largest museum dedicated to a single civilization
  • It will display King Tutankhamun’s complete tomb collection for the first time

A landmark cultural project, the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), is set to officially open its doors to the public on November 1, marking a new era for tourism and archaeology in Egypt. Located on the Giza Plateau just two kilometers from the iconic pyramids, the billion-dollar institution will be the largest museum in the world dedicated to a single civilization.

The GEM is a monumental achievement, spanning 120 acres and housing over 100,000 artifacts, with more than 20,000 being shown to the public for the first time. The museum’s most anticipated exhibit is the complete collection from the tomb of King Tutankhamun, which will be displayed in its entirety for the first time since its discovery in 1922. This includes the famous golden mask, chariots, jewelry, and sarcophagi.

The museum’s modern, angular design mirrors the nearby pyramids, and visitors will be greeted by a towering, 83-ton statue of Ramesses II in the grand atrium. A chronological staircase will guide visitors through 7,000 years of history, showcasing how art and craftsmanship evolved. With its vast collection and state-of-the-art facilities, the GEM is poised to become a global destination, blending ancient wonders with a modern, immersive experience.
