Contemporary Chinese sculptor Huang Yulong has unveiled UPWARD, his outdoor exhibition by the Hong Kong Observation Wheel and AIA Vitality Park at the city’s iconic harbourfront.

Designed to embody optimism and a forward-looking spirit, this unique installation showcases 20, life-size hooded figures in various poses, all gazing upwards towards the Hong Kong skyline. Known for his hip-hop and street culture-inspired style, Yulong elevates his craft to unprecedented heights in this series, with hopes to foster community, openness and youth engagement — making it a powerful symbol of positivity during one of Hong Kong’s busiest cultural months.

In addition to the exhibition, one of the artist’s prominent works, “Be My Side L,” has been acquired for permanent display at the site. Huang will also showcase additional sculptures at Art Basel Hong Kong, continuing his partnership with Ora-Ora following his successful 2024 debut.

UPWARD will take place at the Hong Kong Observation Wheel and AIA Vitality Park during Art Month, running from March 12-20 and March 24-31. The exhibition will feature public viewing hours and an exclusive Art Week event on March 25 for guests.
