Summary

  • Nick Knight’s SHOWstudio celebrates its 25th anniversary with an upcoming fashion short film, titled NATURALLY
  • Releasing on December 17, the film reflects the studio’s enduring curiosity for technology’s role in shaping fashion image culture

SHOWstudio, the fashion film lab led by Nick Knight, rings in 25 years, and is releasing a 3D film to celebrate. The new short film, titled NATURALLY, keeps with the studio’s ‘first-to-do-it’ reputation, shot on high-tech Ray-Ban Meta glasses.

Dropping December 17, the project is fronted by Anok Yai, Naomi Campbell, Mona Tougaard, Susie Cave and Xiao Wen Ju, and will circle three narrative arcs, mind, body and soul. Featured within the film will be designs by Iris Van Herpen, alongside pieces by SHOWstudio collaborators from the last quarter century — Comme des Garçons, Miss Sohee, Dilara Findikoğlu, Matières Fécales, Viktor&Rolf, Robert Wun, Jawara Alleyne and archive Christian Dior by John Galliano.

The piece also arrives with a companion, behind-the-scenes film, pulling back the curtain on its creative process using Gaussian Scanning, a new technique that captures subjects as three-dimensional forms and places them within expansive digital environments.

A champion in the image-making space since its founding in 2000, SHOWstudio dubs itself “the home of fashion film,” and has always worn this title close to heart. From the invention of the modern fashion film to producing Alexander McQueen’s Plato’s Atlantis in 2009, the first livestreamed runway, a reflection of the last 25 years reveals an ardent excitement towards technology’s role in visual culture — a curiosity, with NATURALLY, that shows no signs of slowing.
