Chiharu Shiota’s exhibition Echoes Between will soon be unveiled at Templon Gallery, inviting visitors into an immersive world of thread-based installations that explore memory, existence and transcendence. Known for her monumental environments woven from knotted yarn, Shiota transforms the gallery into a space where the boundaries between the real and the imaginary blur, creating a dialogue between material presence and intangible emotion.

At the heart of the exhibition is a luminous installation in which thousands of radiant threads cascade around two chairs, forming a cloud-like structure that evokes a suspended conversation between absence and presence. Another centerpiece, “The Soul’s Journey,” saturates the space with dense red threads, enveloping viewers in an organic, hypnotic environment that symbolizes the intertwining of memory and consciousness. Alongside these large-scale works, Shiota presents thread-filled boxes functioning as reliquaries of memory and her “Infinite Lines” canvases, where delicate webs are transposed onto surfaces resembling skin, extending her exploration of fragility and permanence.

Through these works, Shiota continues her investigation into themes of life, death, and transformation, drawing on her background in performance and installation art. By integrating everyday objects such as chairs, books, and garments into her woven environments, she imbues them with layers of personal and collective memory. Echoes Between not only reflects Shiota’s signature aesthetic but also deepens her ongoing inquiry into the liminal spaces between existence and disappearance, intimacy and vastness. The exhibition runs concurrently with her show Two Home Countries at the Japan Society in New York, underscoring her international presence and the resonance of her practice across cultures.

Chiharu Shiota’s Echoes Between will be on view from November 6, 2025, through January 22, 2026 at Templon’s New York location.
