FriendsWithYou Finds Friendship in PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO Exhibition

The LA-based duo brings experiential installations to Shibuya’s Art Week.

Exhibitions

Los Angeles-based artist duo FriendsWithYou is presenting a new set of works at Tokyo’s Parco Museum in an exhibition titled Ocean: Temple of the Sacred Heart. Taking inspiration from fictional mythology, the show tells the story of heroes and saints who wish to free humanity from their devices and return them to nature.

At the heart of the museum atrium, “Memory Wave” takes a coin-operated ride to new heights. The “electric healing ride” takes visitors on a voyage of light, encased in a glossy sheen. Alongside the immersive installation, Ocean features a new body of paintings whose smooth textures, sparkling eyes, and soft tones reflect the importance of hope.

Founded by Samuel Albert Borkson and Arturo Sandoval III in 2002, FriendsWithYou explores themes of magic, luck, and friendship across various mediums. Their work often takes the form of large-scale plans, animated by the presence of others.

As a part of PARCO ART WEEK in Shibuya, additional programming will include artist collaborations and special interview events. Limited works and exclusive merchandise will also be available for purchase.

Ocean: Temple of the Sacred Heart will be on view from September 13 through 30 at Shibuya PARCO.
