Artist Nick Fahri Memorializes Fleeting Street Scenes in 'Rêverie'

A new solo exhibition of paintings on view at Stems Gallery in Paris.

Stems Gallery is showcasing a new solo exhibition by artist, poet and writer, Nick Farhi. Housed at the gallery’s Paris location, Rêverie features 10 recent paintings inspired by New York City and Mexico City.

Fahri employs a realist approach to faithfully depict everyday objects and scenes, but executed in a manner that does not shy away from showing the imperfections of the human hand. His latest paintings appear like a photograph on first glance, but reveal a gestural veneer that captures fleeting moments of the urban environment — from the washy reflection of a street corner, where the neon signage of a bodega reflects off a puddle of water to a red jacket hanging against a bright blue sky — ”Farhi’s city scenes inspire contemplative reverie,” mused writer Victoria Horrocks in a statement on the show.

“The perspective shift demanded of Farhi’s paintings connote a similar transference between the individual mind and a collective consciousness,” Horrocks added. “Serving as memorials or odes to a frenetic urban cosmos, Farhi’s paintings capture both the material world and its mindset, the experience of traversing a space and being both singular and multiple all at once.”

Rêverie will be on view in Paris until June 1.
