From the weather project at the Tate Modern to a sea of orbital rings in Qatar, Olafur Eliasson is globally recognized for creating ethereal installations that explore cognitive and cultural perception. His dance moves, however, have largely been under the radar until now, as he collaborated with Peggy Gou to create visuals for “1+1=11”, a new single off of the musician’s long-awaited debut album, I Hear You.

“Dance is transformative! says Eliasson. “It bends and reshapes our relationship with time and space.” The Icelandic-Danish artist recalls first discovering breakdancing as a teenager, which changed his life as he realized that by moving, “he could change space.”

Eliasson and Gou first discussed their interest in movement over a past lunch, where during the meeting, he got up dancing in the middle of the restaurant — planting the idea for a collaborative piece later down the line. “I was able to bring some of the key interests that have long shaped my art into an entirely new context,” Eliasson added. “Working together has been rewarding and a lot of fun!”

In addition to the video, Gou also wore Psychoacoustic empathy amp (2023), a “ring of ears” Eliasson created, which features as the cover to the forthcoming album releasing on June 7.
