Artivist Unveils Dustin Yellin's 'Spooky Portal' Exhibition

Yellin’s first solo exhibit in Asia.

New artist residency and incubator Artivist, tucked away in the heart of Seoul, is the home to multidimensional artist Dustin Yellin‘s first-ever solo Asia exhibition. Artivist is comprised of an arts patron club, an artist residency program, as well as an exhibition space, with the ultimate spatial goal to act as a melting pot, a bridge between traditional and contemporary art. With that mission in mind, the globally celebrated Yellin’s Spooky Portal exhibit is the perfect opener.

“Our goal is to create a hub for artistic inspiration and collaboration,” Afrodet Zuri, Artivist’s curator in residence, conveyed in a statement.  “We believe Artivist and artists such as Dustin, will significantly contribute to the dynamic art culture in Seoul.” Amy Kim, Artivist’s founder, agrees with the sentiment. “His innovative approach to art and commitment to community building align perfectly with our vision for this residency program and patrons group,” she adds.

Yellin blurs the boundaries between the real and the imagined across his enigmatic array of art. He taps a slew of unconventional mediums across Spooky Portal, looking past any restrictions working with a canvas may impose, to curate a series of pieces that comment on the complex themes of human consciousness, social structures as well and our relationship with nature. Pieces like “Understory IV” use layers of transparent glass material to envelop the intricate detailing of pixel curation and digital animation, whereas pieces like  “Zia Copernicus Falls” and “Gushette” take a more traditional route to exemplify moments in time. Have a closer look at his captivating array of work in the gallery above.

Spooky Portal will be on display through October 21, 2023.

Elsewhere in the art space, Todd James presents ROOM TO BREATH at the V1 Gallery in Copenhagen.
