“Everywhere You Go There You Are” Marks Shaniqwa Jarvis’ Los Angeles Solo Debut

On view until August 26.

Over the weekend, multi-disciplinary artist Shaniqwa Jarvis debuted her solo exhibition at Lost Angeles-based CONTROL Gallery.

Entitled “Everywhere You Go There You Are,” the show comprises a new body of work that redefines Jarvis’ concept of “home,” while simultaneously exploring the duality between confinement and the sense of belonging. As a result, the exhibits amalgamate photographs, collages, and painted textiles in an attempt to touch on “a collective embrace of individuality.”

“I am making images that people may not want to see from me, which I often see as part of my own identity politics,” says Jarvis, “when I step back and look at what my memory allowed me to forget, I see that no matter where you go, there you are. These beautiful yet banal moments serve as reminders to pay attention, to be present, and to create deliberately.”

Shaniqwa Jarvis’ “Everywhere You Go There You Are” solo exhibition will be on view at CONTROL Gallery until August 26, 2023. Preview some of the works on display above., and visit the gallery’s official website for more information.
