Edgar Plans Explores Coffee Culture in Debut Exhibition in South Korea

In collaboration with renowned gallerist, Pablo Villazan.

Pablo Villazan, the renowned international gallerist, has unveiled Edgar Plans‘ first solo show in South Korea entitled In My Coffee Time. This marks Villazan’s third collaboration with the Spanish artist for an exclusive international museum exhibition, following successful showcases at the Moma Museum in Moscow and the Xiao Contemporary Art Museum in China.

The exhibition at the S2A museum in Seoul introduces coffee as its central theme, exploring its diverse facets from preparation rituals to the personal and societal experiences associated with it. Plans regards the coffee break as a serene interlude for reflection, despite the bustling location of the S2A museum within Gangnam-gu, Seoul’s financial hub, surrounded by towering skyscrapers and corporate giants.

Embracing a multidisciplinary approach, the exhibit encompasses various mediums and techniques, featuring paintings on canvas and wood, panel silhouettes, drawings, large-scale paintings, and a monumental sculpture at its core—a depiction of one of Plans’ renowned “Animal Heroes” seated atop a paint tube. Notably, among the expansive artworks, a smaller piece titled “My Coffee Time” resonates deeply, encapsulating the artist’s intimate moments of contemplation with coffee.

“The artistic evolution that Plans’ work has undergone over the last few years is outstanding. His characters live together in a complex universe full of elements that intertwine to form order in chaos,” said Pablo Villazan.

The exhibition is complemented by a range of merchandise designed by the artist in partnership with VILLAZAN store, including key chains featuring the beloved “Animal Heroes,” tote bags, limited edition posters, plush toys, an exhibition catalog, and even a paintable limited edition figure. Head to the S2A Museum’s website for more information. The show will close aptly on November 29.
