GRAMMY Museum Announces "Hip-Hop America: The Mixtape Exhibit"

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of hip-hop.

The GRAMMY Museum is celebrating 50 years of hip-hop with the “Hip-Hop America: The Mixtape Exhibit.”

Running from October 7 until September 4, 2024, the 5,000-square foot installation explores the world of hip-hop and its impact and influence with exhibits on its music, dance, graffiti, fashion, business, activism and history. Attendees will be able to view artifact displays such as the Notorious B.I.G.’s iconic red leather pea jacket, LL Cool J’s red Kangol bucket hat, Lil Wayne’s GRAMMY Award for Best Rap Album, Tha Carter III and his handwritten letter from prison to his fans and his family, the custom Saweetie acrylic nail sets created by her nail artist Temeka Jackson and exclusive interviews with MC Lyte, Cordae and other artists regarding their creative process. In addition, the Sonic Playground features five interactive stations that allows visitors of all ages to try their hand at DJing, rapping and sampling.

Other events taking place for this exhibition include The Rap City Experience, a freestyle interactive with Rap City: Tha Basement host Darian “Big Tigger” Morgan that invites visitors to freestyle over beats produced by Hit-Boy, PERFXN and Schyler O’Neal and trade bars with hip-hop artists REASON, Nana and Nilla Allin, and a multi-part event series with The Debut Live that will highlight some of rap’s most iconic albums and their artists, such as DJ Khaled, Joey Bada$$, Rick Ross, T.I. and more.

“Hip-Hop America: The Mixtape Exhibit” runs from October 7 to September 4 ,2024 at the GRAMMY Museum in Los Angeles.
