HypeArt Launched a VIP Tour at Leeum Museum During Frieze Seoul 2022

Exploring the possibilities of AR and VR generated artwork.

Back in August, HypeArt partnered with Acute Art and the Leeum Museum of Art in Seoul, South Korea on an ambitious new exhibition that explores the possibilities of augmented reality and virtual reality. Dubbed Kaleidoscope Eyes, the show presented works from an extraordinary list of artists, including: Koo Jeong A, Nina Chanel Abney, Darren Bader, Marco Brambilla, Lee Bul, Julie Curtiss, Olafur Eliasson, Cao Fei, KAWS, Alicja Kwade, Bjarne Melgaard, Ho Tzu Nyen, Precious Okyomon, David Shrigley, and Tomas Saraceno.

A special tour was held on August 30 to Frieze VIP members, just before launching its inaugural fair in the Korean capital. Daniel Birnbaum, Artistic Director of Acute Art, guided a group of visitors from an array of backgrounds — from young art fans in their 20s, experienced enthusiasts, to more seasoned professionals — all of whom carried an equal fascination in the way AR and VR are redefining the parameters of art-making.

Although Acute Art has covered AR quite extensively in the past, Kaleidoscope Eyes was the first time they held an exhibition at a museum where they were able to curate and be a part of the official program — solidifying the growing interest in these two burgeoning fields. For those of you in Seoul, the show is currently on view until November 27. For more information, please check out Leeum Museum’s website.
