Little Thunder's Solo Exhibition "Reality Dropout" Is Coming to Over the Influence Hong Kong

The first solo exhibition for the Hong Kong-based artist.

Themes of femininity, sensuality, and humor in a mix of whimsical and mundane settings are common denominators in Little Thunder’s artworks. Born and raised in Hong Kong, the popular artist and cartoonist have won the hearts of both domestic and international fans with her distinctive yet highly technical art style, evident in her astounding Instagram following. For the first time, the artist will exhibit 12 canvas paintings for her solo exhibition “Reality Dropout”, showing exclusively at Over the Influence in Hong Kong

“The name of the exhibition Reality Dropout means to withdraw from ‘reality’. It is about seeking the truth and peeling it back layer by layer and realizing the lines between reality and the imagination is only getting blurrier,” explained the artist.

Self-taught and heavily influenced by her ink painter father, Little Thunder began drawing in a manga style at the age of eight, and later became acclaimed for her precise watercolor comics and illustrations. The new body of work for “Reality Dropout” is created with acrylic paint on huge canvases, which also marks a breakthrough in her artistic practices.

Little Thunder elaborates on the concept: “Everyday life is absurd. I want to depict womanhood as if nothing is happening, while in fact everything is happening around them. People constantly seek the ‘truth’ beyond absurdity, but then realize it is beyond anyone’s comprehension”.

“Reality Dropout” is on view from November 4, until December 24 at Over the Influence’s Hong Kong gallery.
