MADSAKI Unveils 'Masters of the Universe' Collab With Mattel

Spotlighting a 15-inch collectible ‘Battle Cat’ sculpture and more.

In September 2020, MADSAKI launched his “1984” exhibition at Kaikai Kiki Gallery featuring a selection of sculptures and paintings inspired by Mattel’s cult franchise, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe

For the works in the presentation, the Japanese artist not only referenced subjects from the television show, but also its popular toy line, comic book covers and action figure packaging across his vivid compositions and three-dimensional works. Altogether the exhibition celebrated MADSAKI’S obsession of Masters of the Universe, which started when he moved to the U.S. from Japan as a kid and learned how to speak English and connect to American culture through the original show.

MADSAKI has now teamed up with Mattel on a collaboration to commemorate the exhibition. The limited edition capsule features a 15” collectible Battle Cat sculpture, a lunch box set, artist prints, and hats and clothing all inspired from the artist’s artworks displayed in his “1984” exhibition.

Standout items include the Masterpiece of the Universe sculpture of He-Man and Battle Cat. “Our team of designers couldn’t wait to see the creative energy MADSAKI would bring to He-Man and Battle Cat. His signature neon colors and spray painted details, combined with a massive presence (15 inches) bring an eccentric and oh-so-collectible edge to this iconic pair,” as per statement. Moreover, the duo is purveying a range of POWER SWORD NOT INCLUDED jackets as well as lunchboxes featuring Skeletor imagery.

All items will release on January 29 at 9 a.m. PST on Mattel Creations.
