Do Ho Suh Unveils Architectural Fabric Works at Lehmann Maupin

Ghost-like room installations and reinterpretations of everyday objects.

London’s Lehmann Maupin is currently hosting a dynamic digital exhibition featuring new architectural fabric works by the acclaimed Korean sculptor and artist, Do Ho Suh. The eponymous presentation features large installations of ghost-like rooms and small-scale pieces of domestic objects such as light fixtures and nostalgic devices that explore the concept of space and home.

The virtual presentation offers a brief overview of the artist’s groundbreaking approach. “Throughout his career, Suh has investigated the ways in which we occupy and inhabit both public and private space, drawing attention to questions of identity and the role of the individual in today’s increasingly global society,” said the gallery in a statement.

Now based in London, Suh continues to elevate his interdisciplinary practice that not only emphasize the malleability of space, but also confront issues of cultural identity, memory and marginality. Oftentimes, the pieces he creates are autobiographical. One of his earliest and most widely-recognized pieces entitled Home Within Home Within Home Within Home was a silk replica of his first solo home in Rhode Island. The work measured a staggering 12 by 15 meters.

Check out select works from the exhibition above and then head to Lehmann Maupin’s website to learn more. The digital exhibition is running until February 20, 2021.
