Sotheby's to Raise Money to Build London's Largest Community Kitchen

Raising funds through the sale of donated artwork.

Sotheby’s has teamed up with London newspapers The Evening Standard and The Independent for an online auction to raise money to build the city’s largest community kitchen.

Entitled ‘Help the Hungry Auction’ featuring artwork donations from the likes of Ai Weiwei, Anish Kapoor, Tracey Emin, Bridget Riley and Michael Craig-Martin, all proceeds will go towards raising funds.

Following on from the launch of The Evening Standard’sFood For London Now’ and The Independent’sHelp the Hungry’ projects in aid of The Felix Project – the capitals largest food surplus distributer, the aim is to collect and use food that is surplus to requirements and that would otherwise go to waste.

This three-way partnership aims to build London’s biggest community kitchen and help expand their operation across the capital. It intends to provide lunch for the homeless and produce hot meals using the surplus food that will then be distributed to over 350 charities across London.

Sotheby’s Contemporary Art Day sale – in partnership with both newspapers – will commence on July 20 via the Sotheby’s web store.
