All Profits From Library Street Collective's Alliance Platform Will Benefit Charities

A new charitable initiative launching with a painting by Sam Friedman.

Library Street Collective just launched a new charitable platform called Alliance that allows participating artists to donate 100 percent of the sale of their works to a nonprofit organization of their choice. The Detroit-based gallery started the initiative to help turn “artmaking into activism,” as per a statement. “We hope that collectors who engage with these works will keep this spirit of generosity in mind, knowing that as they bid they are receiving a work of art that is a catalyst for change.”

The first installment of Alliance features an original Untitled 2020 painting by Sam Friedman. All proceeds from the sale of the work will benefit NYC Together — a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting youth through educational programs and reducing crime by working with communities.

“When choosing a charitable partner for this project I turned to friend, and photographer, Sue Kwon for advice,” said Friedman. “Kwon has spent many years documenting the work of NYC Together. The organization’s focus on youth and strengthening communities while lessening the need for traditional law enforcement interventions is critical for positive change for a new generation of New Yorkers.”
