Invader Announces "Hanging / Hong Kong / 2020" First Solo Exhibition

Featuring the mosaic artist’s take on important historical paintings.

French mosaic artist Invader is presenting his first solo exhibition, titled “Hanging / Hong Kong / 2020” this month.

For the show, Invader is showcasing his iconic designs and creations that have been seen around the world on public streets, building walls, ledges, overhangs and more. Alongside the pieces previously spotted, a series of “RubikMasterpieces” will also be on show, which take inspiration from historic paintings by world-renown artists. Versions of art influenced by Paul Gaugin, Vincent Van Gogh and Édouard Manet continue the trend Invader first accomplished with his “Rubik Mona Lisa” in 2005.

While “Hanging / Hong Kong / 2020” will not feature re-appropriated art from the streets, the exhibition will house Invader’s alias works, or replicas created by the artist for display purpose. Since each piece seen around the world is an unsigned public display of art, Invader’s aliases — which are one-off recreations signed by the artist himself — are the only way to experience the creations in a group.

View “Hanging / Hong Kong / 2020” at the Over the Influence gallery in Hong Kong beginning July 10. The exhibition will run until August 8. If you prefer seeing Invader’s art in the wild, his latest works of Star Wars characters were spotted in the island of Djerba, Tunisia.
