Jupe Teams up With Artists to Build Recovery Units for Frontline Medical Workers

“Equipped with mobile bedding, technology, and amenities.”

Last month, flat-pack startup Jupe announced its launch to build the “world’s first standalone intensive care unit” and rest and recovery units to help hospitals and frontline medical workers under pressure due to the coronavirus pandemic. The shelter startup is now teaming up with nonprofit design lab Amplifier to build new rest and recovery units called REST featuring designs by leading artists including Shepard Fairey, Pegah Kavousi, Thomas Wimberly and Jared Yazzie.

“Co-designed by frontline ER doctors, Jupe REST enables safe isolated wellness that prevents the risk of further outbreak amongst the population,” expressed Jupe in a statement. “Equipped with mobile bedding, technology, and amenities to support long-term containment efforts, Jupe REST units are beautiful, dignified isolation spaces for frontline healthcare workers to get the rest they need while fighting the coronavirus.”

The designs selected for the project were from Amplifier’s Global Open Call campaign for artworks promoting public health and safety messages “that can help flatten the curve through education,” said the organizers in a statement. Starting April 30th, the duo will select a new artist for the collaborative recovery units for the next six weeks. A total of 10 custom designs will be selected for a limited number of units.

Visit Jupe’s website for more information. You can also help sponsor a rest unit by visiting GiveFrontlineCare.org.
