Simon Lee Gallery Presents Dynamic Paintings & Sculptures for Art Basel Hong Kong 2020

As part of the fair’s first iteration of Online Viewing Rooms.

Last month, Art Basel canceled its Hong Kong 2020 edition over the novel coronavirus outbreak. However, the yearly art fair unveiled plans to launch a new digital initiative that offers exhibitors a virtual way to display artworks to its vast network of collectors, buyers, and art aficionados the world over.

From March 20 to March 25, Art Basel’s first-ever Online Viewing Rooms will give participating galleries the chance to present works they intended to display the physical fair in Hong Kong. A total of 231 galleries from 31 countries and territories are set to showcase over 2,000 artworks worth over $250 million USD.

One of the exhibitors is Simon Lee Gallery that will feature a selection of recent works that blur the line between abstraction and figuration. Participating artists include Mel Bochner, Claudio Parmiggiani, Michelangelo Pistoletto, and more. Highlights include Pistoletto’s mirror paintings that immerse viewers into their compositional environments as well as Parmiggiani’s Delocazione that explores the concept of ephemerality in painting.

Similar to the traditional fairs, the virtual booths will start with a preview that is only accessible for VIP cardholders starting March 18 and will then be open to the public on March 20. Visit Art Basel’s website to learn more and check out select works from Simon Lee Gallery’s Online Viewing Room above.
