Honorroller Displays Sneaker Sculptures & First Interactive Exhibit at SPRING/BREAK Art Show

Transforming a section in the fair into “an idealized child’s bedroom.”

Arts week in New York City has officially begun with fairs such as The Armory Show, SCOPE New York, Independent New York, among others offering diverse programming and dynamic presentations to boot. Returning to the city is the anticipated SPRING/BREAK Art Show that plays host to a number of unknown, emerging and mid-career artists. Christopher Chan, better known by his moniker Honorroller, will be presenting his first interactive exhibition at the fair ambitiously titled “As Long as I’ve Got My Health, and My Millions of Dollars, and My Gold House, and Rocket Car, I Don’t Need Anything Else.”

The Brooklyn-based interdisciplinary artist widely-known for his blocky sneaker sculptures such as the Air Jordan 1 and commemorative figures of celebrities including the late A$AP Yams. These art objects also function as standalone planters. Chan will present archival works at the forthcoming presentation including an immersive installation that evokes “an idealized child’s bedroom” complete with a racecar bed and a built-in arcade.

The artist “combines sculpture, illustration, and design in his practice in order to ex- plore social constructs, branding, popular culture, and the transi- tion from youth to adulthood. This exhibition brightly illustrates the excessive, materialistic, and the manner of human play,” as per a statement.

Check out select works by Chan from previous projects in the slideshow above and purchase tickets for the SPRING/BREAK Art Show here that is set to launch tonight, March 3.
