See Joana Vasconcelos' Massive Crochet Installation 'Simone' in Paris
Taking over the main atrium at Le Bon Marché.

Joana Vasconcelos continues her Valkyries series with her latest installation Simone, taking over the Le Bon Marché department store in Paris.
The gigantic airborne creature is entirely handmade using woollen crochet, LEDs and an assortment of fabrics, ornaments, and inflatables. It’s suspended from the store’s central skylight and consumes the entire main atrium.
Le Bon Marché’s stairwells are often the centerpiece for its exhibitions as seen in Leandro Erlich’s escalator knot installation, and with “Simone”, Vasconcelos continues the tradition. Wrapping around escalators and the buildings iconic architecture, the baroque-inspired installation references French activists and artists Simone de Beauvoir and Simone Weil, while encompassing the power and presence of Nordic mythology and goddesses.
You can experience Joana Vasconcelos‘ installation for yourself until March 24, 2019.
