Greg Mike Paints His Vision of the City for Nike's SNKRS Atlanta Pop-Up

Popular landmarks get turned into quirky characters.

For the latest in its Art of SNKRS series, Nike commissioned artist Greg Mike to create an installation in its Atlanta pop-up space. A native of the city, Mike fused his longstanding inspiration from the region’s culture with his surrealist pop art style to create the expressive mural, “On the Rise.”

Recognizable Atlanta landmarks such as Peachtree St., the downtown skyline and a MARTA train get turned into quirky characters in the piece. Taking cues from Nike’s popular Air Jordan 1 “Banned” colorway, the work is painted in black and white with splashes of red adding color throughout. Meanwhile, a large Air Max sneaker and an “AIR” illustration add striking logo placements.

“If I’m able to create something that somebody can look at and that will make them pick up a paint brush, a pencil, a camera…get out in the world and try something they haven’t tried before, I think it’s a success. That’s always the goal, to hopefully inspire future generations like other artists have inspired me.” – Mike

The installation is located in the West Midtown area of Atlanta and will be open to the public until Saturday, March 30.
