Joan Cornellà Shakes up South Korea With His Cynical Artworks

As part of a new solo exhibition at Seoul’s Studio Concrete.

In the world of contemporary art, Joan Cornellà is an expert of injecting cynical humor in his minimalist cartoons. The Barcelona-based artist recently launched his second solo exhibition in Seoul, South Korea entitled “JOAN COMIX.” The extensive showcase features new works that touch upon love, violence, obsession, and politics. Immediate eye-grabbers from the show include a portrait of Kim Jong-un making a heart shape with his hands and a sculpture of a male figure with no arms bearing a yellow T-shirt that says “Free Hugs” across the front portion. Collectively, a total of 66 paintings including new posters fill the gallery space.

Browse through the images above and visit Studio Concrete’s official website to view more projects. “JOAN COMIX” is currently on view up until April 30. In case you missed it, Russell Crowe is set to auction $1 million USD worth of belongings to commemorate his divorce.
