Carston Höller Erects 60-Foot Slides at Florence's Palazzo Strozzi

Last March, Carsten Höller announced his plans to create a pair of 60-foot slides inside Florence’s historic Palazzo Strozzi. This time around, the celebrated German artist finally showcases the fruits of his labor, unveiling photos of the site-specific installation.

Made in collaboration with plant neurobiologist, Stefano Mancuso, the installation aims to relay insight on mankind’s relationship with nature while also analyzing the growth of wisteria plant vines of which the artwork takes its inspiration from. Moreover, those willing to go down the slides are required to hold a plant as part of a live experiment to see “how plants feel,” as per Palazzo Strozzi.
