Jonathan Gardner Brings His "The Spot of The Eye" Exhibition to Glasgow

You’ve got until March 24 to visit the show.

New York-based artist Jonathan Gardner has opened his second solo show at Glasgow’s Mary Mary Gallery, four years since his work last appeared there. The new exhibition — titled The Spot of the Eye – consists of new work by the artist that focuses on ideas of abstraction, representation and the interior.

This is achieved through the distortion of artistic devices such as perspective, scale or linear narrative. The works — mostly large oils on canvas based around Gardner’s drawings — feature standard elements such as figures, furniture, plants and paintings within paintings that are contrasted against tile or brick patterned backgrounds. As well as this framing of images, other focuses include windows, doorways, exits and entrances, all of which feature throughout. Take a look at some of the works above — the exhibition is open now and runs until March 24.
