Tom Sachs Releasing Limited Edition Chairs Used by NASA
From his 2012 Space Program Mars show.

Artist Tom Sachs is gearing up to release a limited edition item from his 2012 artist show, in conjunction with NASA.
The “Space Program: Mars Flown NASA Chair” is actually a repurposed Samsonite Model 2250 foldable chair and, according to Tom Sachs and his team, was used during the launches that took two astronauts to “the surface of Mars at the Park Avenue Armory, NYC 2012.” Each available chair, slightly used, is made of High Density Polyethylene (acronymed as H.O.P.E.) and zinc plated steel, and measures 31.25” x 17.25” x 19.25” inches in size. A screen printed “NASA” is found on the backrest while the furniture is signed and hand labeled with a name and serial number. The Tom Sachs team further notes that the chairs “may contain dust and signs of use” for authenticity. Retail price is set at $1,000 USD.
The chair is now available to purchase on the Tom Sachs official website but supplies are greatly limited. You can also purchase directly from Tom Sachs’s personal Instagram Story. For more Tom Sachs, watch his “Paradox Bullets” short film featuring the Nike Mars Yard Overshoe.
