Daniel Arsham Explores the Fragility of Time in Part One of His adidas Originals Short Film, 'Hourglass'

While revealing a new collaborative trainer with The Three Stripes.

After weeks of waiting and mounds of clues, Daniel Arsham has finally launched the first part of his adidas Originals short film titled Hourglass. The 12-minute clip is perhaps the most intimate one that Arsham has ever released as it cites real childhood experiences along with fictional sequences interspersed. Additionally, fans can also get a glimpse of what looks to be a new collaborative trainer with The Three Stripes.

The video starts off with the artist in his studio, fighting to stay in focus in an interview with an unspecified broadcasting agency. A series of haunting flashbacks ensue with a young Arsham losing his way in the streets of Miami. At one point, his young self encounters his future self and soon after, things go awry with the disastrous Hurricane Andrew (1992) closing in on the region. The video concludes with Arsham at his sizable Hourglass exhibit at the High Museum of Art which launched in Atlanta, Georgia last year.

“Time travel and a fluid idea of time is something that I use heavily in my work, by taking things from the past and causing them to appear as if they’ve been uncovered on some future archaeological site. The film plays with this idea: hence the hourglass,” expressed Arsham to Dazed.

Watch part one of Hourglass above and stay tuned for details on the next two installments.
