NYC's Allouche Gallery Enlists Ron English for First Solo Exhibition

Tapping Pablo Picasso’s ‘Guernica’ painting for the new series of artwork.

Tucked in New York City’s Meatpacking District is the fairly new Allouche Gallery located directly across the street from the Whitney Museum. To commemorate its first solo exhibition, the gallery enlisted iconic American contemporary artist, Ron English. The wide-ranging showcase dubbed “Ron English / Guernica” culls influences from Pablo Picasso’s Guernica oil painting — the artwork was created in 1937 as a response to the Nazi bombing of Guernica, Spain and was considered to be one of the most influential anti-war paintings in history. In addition, English fans can anticipate a covey of “cultural-jammed” pieces from the “Godfather of Street Art” that feature popular cartoon characters from The Flintstones, Star Wars and The Simpsons to name a few. Not to mention, the artist’s famed Temper Tot makes its imprint on several of the pieces as well.

Take a look at select works of art from “Ron English / Guernica” above. The show will be open to the public from September 22 up until October 19.
