This Animation Reduces Kung Fu to Its Purest Forms

Martial arts becomes motion art.

In cinema, kung fu is so often portrayed as a wildly violent pursuit primarily concerned with dealing hurt in copious amounts to triad members. In this frenzy, the grace and philosophy behind kung fu is often lost. However, this animation by German multimedia designer Tobias Gremmier so beautifully reclaims that hidden poetry within kung fu by reducing the practitioner to suggestions of movement in a virtual plane, allowing the viewer to better appreciate the subtlety and fluidity of the action. Translating the figure into fractal webs and sprays of particles, the video realizes the original vision of the Futurism movement of the early 20th century in an entirely novel medium.
