Straddling the line between the morbid and ethereal, Adrien Havet and Jessica Daubertes — more commonly known within art circles as Førtifem – are a French couple who pave their way each day with a talent for producing spine-chilling illustrations. Armed with tubular nib pens filled with Indian ink, the duo look to traditional European illustrations and new school tattoo-inspired designs in their repertoire, alternating thin and fat lines in the sketching of two-faced goblins, sin-eaters and such. Inspired by old legends and a world of mystery, Førtifem’s work is a reflection of the duo’s wild, yet dark-humored imagination. Førtifem’s work may look like any old gruesome piece at first glance, but look a little closer and you’ll notice the incredible amount of detail that they put into each piece. For our latest Pen & Paper, we visited Havet and Daubertes at their Paris home where they shared with us exclusive pieces that will debut at the couple’s forthcoming show in Hong Kong. Titled “MAUVAISE VEINE,” Fortifem will present their first show in Asia at Hong Kong’s SALT Gallery, where attendees will be treated to a flash tattoo service for those who purchase their work at the launch event on March 6.
