Annie Leibovitz SUMO-Sized TASCHEN Book
Celebrated photographer Annie Leibovitz is the latest artist to be immortalized in TASCHEN’s

Celebrated photographer Annie Leibovitz is the latest artist to be immortalized in TASCHEN‘s massive “SUMO” series with a brand new release from the German publisher. Measuring 19.7” x 27.2” and weighing a whopping 57 lbs, the massive tome clocks in at 476 pages and draws from over 40 years of work for the likes of Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair and Vogue for a comprehensive retrospective featuring some of Leibovitz’s most iconic imagery. Bookended by a black-and-white photograph of Richard Nixon’s helicopter lifting off from the White House lawn following his resignation as president in 1974 and Queen Elizabeth II’s formal portrait taken in a drawing room of Buckingham Palace in 2007, the book includes portraits of actors, dancers, comedians, musicians, artists, writers, performance artists, journalists, athletes and businesspeople; themes of performance and power resonate throughout. Finally, an included supplementary book includes essays from comedian Steve Martin, Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter, and directors Hans Ulrich Obrist and Paul Roth, as well as text describing each of the more than 250 photographs. Limited to 10,000 copies in all, the book comes in a collector’s edition (no. 1,001 through 10,000) featuring one of four dust jackets while a special art edition (no. 1 through 1,000) includes all four jackets and a limited edition print – all of which are signed by Leibovitz and accompanied by a Marc Newson-designed book stand. TASCHEN’s SUMO-sized Leibovitz book is due out this March with the collector’s edition available online and priced at $2,500 USD.
