Although widely known for his provocative work with models across the world, Van Styles’s portfolio is as diverse as they come. Originally born in New York, Van grew up in California’s San Fernando Valley after his parents relocated. By virtue of the strong skateboarding culture and, not to mention, the ubiquity of sun-kissed beauty in the area, he channeled his creative interests through photography. With a clearly vested interest in the field, Philly-based Caste Quality took the time to interview Van for an installment of its ”Artisan Series.” Here the man so frequently behind the lens reveals his favorite lens-camera combination, growing up in Southern California, and what he hopes to accomplish with his work – all of which shines a rather flattering light on Vans’ already impressive work.
