Daniel Arsham, a contemporary American artist raised in Miami, Florida now resides in New York City. It is here in NYC that Arsham is expanding on his previous body of work to include a movie that depicts the future of humanity in this part two of his Future Relic series. In this movie, star James Franco depicts a laboratory worker who carefully examines, catalogs, and then destroys telephones and cameras in an exercise of beautiful futility. It is a narrative of how we are failing to preserve the planet for future generations to come, costarring none other than Ashram’s previous sculptural work from years past. Is it a bleak, yet accurate representation of the future, or one that provides an anti-apocalyptic hope of sorts? It’s never really revealed, but there’s one thing that’s certain – you won’t be able to look away from this strange yet enthralling mini-movie.
This video is part two of a nine-part series to come. Stay tuned.
