Sometimes, skateboarding involves not skateboarding. In the case of Baker Skateboards professional Don “Nuge” Nguyen, this has manifested itself through an interest in craftwork as an alternative creative endeavor. Scion’s A/V division, which works to support various local art scenes around the country, took notice of Nguyen and backed the skater to curate a new show: “Live Heavy, Travel Light.” In addition to being perfectly suited to Nuge’s approach to skating, the title of the show also references Nuge’s work, notably – dual-form custom cigar cases made of old guitars. Other items curated included carabiners, canteens and collapsible shovels, all of which were blessed with limited-edition Volume-4 detailing. Hollywood’s finest came out to support the travel and skateboarding-inspired art show, including Dylan Rieder, Braydon Szafranski, Abby Brothers, and a host of other pretty California people. Enjoy our recap of the event above.
