Pen & Paper: Skinner

Artists of various forms often seek to channel a sort of inner chaos onto paper, canvas, or whichever medium they might happen to work with. Hailing from Sacramento, California, the artist Skinner‘s work might be a perfect embodiment of that notion, drawing upon a wide array of influences encompassing heavy metal, ’80s pop culture and Dungeons and Dragons to create colorful work in an equally diverse range of media. Completely self-taught, his psychedelic, often myth- and occult-based art may be found in the form of murals, wall-to-wall installations and commercial projects, from diverse locales such as Japan and the Netherlands, to a staggering solo exhibition at White Walls Gallery in San Francisco. More recently, the talented Skinner was commissioned to complete an interior mural at Mishka‘s latest LA retail location. In this latest installation of Pen & Paper, we take a first-hand look at the artist’s striking, creature-heavy images and are, of course, particularly fond of the tribute sketch.
