Takashi Murakami “Flowers & Skulls” Exhibition @ Gagosian Gallery Hong Kong Recap

Curator, cultural entrepreneur and critical observer of contemporary Japanese society, Takashi

Curator, cultural entrepreneur and critical observer of contemporary Japanese society, Takashi Murakami‘s work draws on Japan’s social and cultural entities. Vivid, sophisticated and at times unavoidable – his most recent Murakami-Ego centerpiece is inspired by the Tokhoku earthquake and stretches 100 meters long - Takashi Murakami explores central dichotomies in his work, merging Japanese pop art with traditional techniques. After exhibiting his dynamic work in the likes of Paris, New York, Qatar and Frankfurt, Murakami writes off Hong Kong and transforms the Gagosian Gallery into a hub of captivating visuals. Titled “Flowers & Skulls,” the exhibition sees Murakami present 14 flamboyant paintings. Most notably the Blue Life Force, Self-Portrait of the Manifold Worries of a Manifoldly Distressed Artist, The Artist’s Agony and Ecstasy and Of Chinese Lions, Peonies, Skulls And Fountains glow distinctively, displaying Murakami’s blend of Japanese caricatures with conventional Asian art. The exhibition is on until February 9, so pass on through if you’re in the city otherwise have a look at the gallery above and let us know what you think.
