Since the 1960s the Pirelli Calender has retained a legendary status as one of the world’s classiest collection of pinups revealing unclad supermodels and celebrities alike through the lens of experienced photographers like Terry Richardson, Karl Lagerfeld and Mario Sorrenti. The 2013 calender will take a surprisingly different approach however, as the tire manufacturer enlists photojournalist Steve McCurry with the task of capturing tantalizing images of fully-clothed women with impressive philanthropy backgrounds. Best known for the portrait Afghan Girl, the Pirelli Calendar will be Steve McCurry’s first foray into fashion photography. With subjects like Adriana Lima, Isabeli Fontana, Karlie Kloss and Petra Nemcova to aid in making his debut one to remember, his soul-baring portraits pressed atop the street art-filled cityscape of Rio de Janeiro provides a beautiful representation of each woman and their commitment to helping the world through various charitable or humanitarian efforts.
