When unexpected rain shows up, it tends to put a damper on things. Despised at weddings and unwelcome during vacation, one can’t help but to loath the feeling of walking around in wet clothes and waterlogged shoes. Some, however, welcome the rain and the beauty it brings — from the refreshing smell, the sight of dancing water droplets, down to the sound of water hitting the empty roads during a sudden evening downpour. London-based art studio, rAndom International has found a way to capture the sensation of rain without actually getting wet. Using carefully placed motion detecting cameras, visitors’ locations within the “Rain Room” are tracked and water valves are shut off to keep their surrounding area dry. Those in the London area can experience it first hand as the installation is on display at the Barbican Centre until March 3, 2013.
