Zhang Huan "49 Days" Exhibition @ Blum & Poe Recap

Chinese-based artist Zhang Huan is currently hosting a one-person exhibition entitled “49 Days”

Chinese-based artist Zhang Huan is currently hosting a one-person exhibition entitled “49 Days” at Blum & Poe art gallery in Los Angeles. At the center of the exhibition is a monumental brick sculpture named Pagoda, 2009 that was originally on display at the Shangai Art Museum. The 22-foot-tall bell-shaped pagoda was made from the bricks of centuries-old buildings that used to surround Shanghai but have since been demolished to make room for newer, more modern architectural projects. In addition to this piece, Zhang will also show a series of newly constructed brick sculptures in the likeness of pigs and skulls that relate to the story of Zhu Gangqiang. The exhibition will be on display at Blum & Poe from now through July 9, 2011.
