Hypeart celebrated its THRESHOLD exhibition at Bonhams Los Angeles with a special reception on Thursday, February 20. The event drew a packed crowd, with guests gathering for a panel discussion led by Isabel Norsten, Bonhams’ Specialist in Post-War & Contemporary Art. Norsten steered a compelling conversation around the show’s theme of breaking boundaries, featuring renowned artist Shepard Fairey, Hypeart’s Keith Estiler, Juxtapoz’s Evan Pricco, gallerist Richard Scarry of Subliminal Projects and Ralph Taylor, Bonhams’ Global Head of 20th/21st Century Art.

The discussion culminated in the unveiling of Fairey-isms, a book published by No More Rulers in collaboration with Princeton University Press, compiling notable quotes from Fairey, the artist and activist behind the iconic Obama “Hope” poster and Obey Giant street campaign.

Fueled by VOSS Water, the conversation transitioned into an intimate reception featuring custom cocktails by Diageo‘s line of spirits including Don Julio, Bulleit and Tanqueray.

On view until February 21, THRESHOLD examines the tension between history and transformation, presenting works by Shepard Fairey, Beverly Pepper, Sam Gilliam, and more. The exhibition confronts shifting boundaries in art and society, with standout pieces such as Magdalena Abakanowicz’s “Figure on Beam” (circa 1994). The headless figure, wrapped in rough burlap and balanced on a beam, channels the late Polish sculptor’s harrowing experiences under Nazi occupation, reflecting themes of survival and resilience.

Elizabeth Neel’s US 11 (2019), one of a few pieces contributed by Project Angel Food for an upcoming charity auction benefiting LA wildfire relief, offers a fragmented vision of the American flag—its disjointed form mirroring the fractures within the nation’s political landscape.

Throughout the space, both new and archival works by Shepard Fairey further illustrate the artist’s far-reaching impact, bridging past and present in a dialogue on resistance and change.
