Summary

  • Acclaimed photographer Juergen Teller is set to open his expansive you are invited mid-career survey at Onassis Ready in Athens Greece
  • Opening on October 19, the exhibition will feature some of Teller’s most iconic images and videos, alongside never-before-seen works, personal portraits and still-lifes, spanning his early days in London today

Sat at the vanguard of fashion photography, Juergen Teller has built a career off a defiant eye. Internationally renowned for his celebrity portraits, provocative editorials and striking luxury campaigns, his work dismantles the fantasy of perfection, opting for an unguarded immediacy that’s blunt, beautiful and above all, alive.

Now, Teller is ushering in a new chapter. For his latest move, the German photographer is gearing up to open you are invited, an expansive mid-career survey and inaugural exhibition of Onassis Ready space in Athens. Staged in a 3,700-square-meter former plastics plant, with a sleek overhaul led by 6a Architects, the show chronicles the artist’s bold arc, from his beginnings in ’90s London to today. Audiences can expect to see the likes of Alex Consani, Pope Francis, Kate Moss and Iggy Pop situated beside never-before-seen images, still-lifes and family portraits.

While his photographs have always carried a sense of the personal, you are invited heightens that intimacy. In recent years, Teller has turned the camera inward — most notably through collaborations with his wife, Dovile Drizyte — creating work that merges the performative and domestic, the tender and grotesque, calling on questions of time, evolution and what it means to be an artist in-flux.

“This is where it begins,” Onassis Foundation’s Artistic Director, Afroditi Panagiotakou, said in a recent statement, describing the exhibition as a space “where the political clashes with the intimate, where raw, unfiltered emotion meets the quiet strength and vulnerability of family.”

“Juergen Teller’s show will be more than an exhibition. It’s an invitation: to feel, to question, to belong.”
