CART Department and West Coast Customs Unveil 'Art Car Series' at LA Auto Show
Featuring Keith Haring’s painted 1983 Buick, Virgil Abloh’s Project Geländewagen, among others.
CART Department is an emerging platform that celebrates the intersection of art and car culture through curated content, collaborations and events. CART Department, in collaboration with West Coast Customs, recently launched the Art Car Series at the 2024 LA Auto Show, featuring 10 standout cars designed by renowned artists and cultural leaders. The event runs through December 1 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Notable vehicles include Keith Haring’s painted 1983 Buick, Virgil Abloh’s Project Geländewagen and the deconstructed Maybach from Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “Otis” music video. These pieces embody a rich narrative of creativity spanning art, music and contemporary culture. Moreover, West Coast Customs complements the Art Car Series with its own custom builds, featuring vehicles like Don Tolliver’s AMG Mercedes and Wil.i.am’s concept Tesla.
“The Art Car Series represent a vital new genre of Art that bridges the gap between Art and popular culture, one of the most compelling aspects of the art cars is their capacity for storytelling. This presentation sets the stage for the cars as a time capsule for future generations to understand and appreciate our current culture,” said Larry Warsh, founder of CART Department, publisher and collector.
