Louis Buhl & Co. Announces New Detroit Headquarters

The forthcoming space will include a new gallery and an in-house production studio.

Long under-appreciated , Detroit is reemerging as a cultural epicenter within the US thanks to a growing list of artists and organizations calling the Motor City home. Contemporary art galleries Louis Buhl & Co. and Library Street Collective have been an integral member of this list who continue to lead the charge on curatorial projects and exhibitions, that have featured the likes of Robert Moreland, Tyrrell Winston, Geoff McFetridge and many more.

To kick off 2024, Library Street Collective and Louis Buhl & Co. co-founders Anthony & JJ Curis have announced plans to launch a new headquarters in Detroit’s East Village. The forthcoming building will be designed by Los Angeles-based architecture firm Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects, and will include a new gallery space, along with its first in-house production studio.

“We’re thrilled to announce this latest addition to the cultural district in the East Village: a new home for our expanding gallery Louis Buhl & Co and another outlet in the community for supporting artists,” said Anthony and JJ Curis in a statement. “Lorcan O’Herlihy and his team’s enthusiasm for what’s happening in the neighborhood was evident from the start, and we have the utmost confidence in their vision for this next chapter of the gallery.”

Located at 1317 McClellan Avenue, adjacent to a church-turned-arts center, the gallery’s new headquarters is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. Learn more about the space, as well as its list of programming here.
