Triennale Explores Ettore Sottsass’ Use of the Written Word in New Exhibition

On view in Milan until April 2.

Triennale di Milano is showcasing a new exhibition on legendary Italian architect and designer, Ettore Sottsass. Following two earlier shows, Structure and Color and Calculation, the third and final iteration in the series spotlights Sottsass’ many uses of the written word.

Entitled La Parola (The Word), visitors can get a glimpse into the mind of one of the brightest creative figures in design history through a selection of drawings, objects, writings and unpublished works — from to-do lists, diary confessions, magazine interviews to manifestos, speeches, stories and more.

Despite being birthed in the Modernist movement, Sottsass rewrote the rules of design by imbuing a sense of color and life through his ‘magical objects.’ The exhibition aptly showcases a blueprint to Sottsass’ thought patterns and approach to world-building. La Parola (The Word) will be on view in Milan until April 2.
