Yayoi Kusama's 'LOVE IS CALLING' Exhibition To Land at Miami's Pérez Art Museum

From March 9, 2023, to February 11, 2024.

At the Pérez Art Museum in Miami, Yayoi Kusama is preparing to restage her famous, polka-dot-filled exhibition, titled LOVE IS CALLING. From March 9, 2023, to February 11, 2024, the psychedelic showcase, which first premiered in Japan in 2013, will light up the Floridian gallery with all of Kusama’s quintessential motifs.

The dark, reflective space will continue the legendary Japanese artist’s famous Infinity Mirror Rooms series in its largest form to date. Inflatable, tentacle-like structures, dotted with emblematic black spots, will light the exhibition in gradually changing kaleidoscopic hues, extending out from the floor and the ceiling to cultivate an immersive experience.

As visitors walk through the installation, Kusama’s voice will recite the poem that inspired the exhibition, also titled “LOVE IS CALLING.” The two-minute recording covers heavy themes of life and death, while spotlighting Kusama’s desire to spread love through her work. Notably, the poem’s Japanese title translates to “Residing in a Castle of Shed Tears.”

The exhibition, organized by PAMM Associate Curator Jennifer Inacio, will mark Kusama’s first show at the Pérez Art Museum. “We are honored to offer this experience to our audience as Kusama is an iconic artist with an important career trajectory. She has been creating works that are lively, thoughtful, and introspective, which have been enjoyed by viewers for over six decades and will certainly be enjoyed by our Miami audience,” said Inacio in a statement.
