Tappan Collective Opens First Brick-and-Mortar Gallery in LA

The inaugural exhibition features work from emerging artists Shawn Polmo, Fei Li and Andreas Anastasis, amongst others.

For over ten years, Tappan Collective has made the art buying experience easier for existing enthusiasts and a new generation of collectors. Founded by Chelsea Neman Nassib in 2012, the online art gallery and e-commerce platform has equipped artists of various creative disciplines with the exposure and know-how to navigate the often-tricky business of art. With a decade under its belt, Tappan has announced its first brick-and-mortar location in the heart of Los Angeles.

Designed by architect Marco Marraccini of Abramson Architects and interior designer Brandi Howe, the 2,500 square foot space is part gallery, office and retail space, which will play host to its inaugural group exhibition aptly titled OFFLINE. Nassib looked to create a space that mimicked a deconstructed living room, but one which still felt like a gallery and allowed people to experience how these artworks would exist in their own home. “The gallery was created to bring our artists from around the globe to you in a unique experience,” said Nassib in a statement. “We are excited to share what has kept us inspired and bring our online experience offline.”

Amongst the work on view, the exhibitions features the latest drawings, paintings and sculptures by emerging artists Shawn Polmo, Fei Li and Andreas Anastasis. Polmo is best-known for creating highly detailed pencil drawings of the human figure. Always carrying elongated features, each of his works explore the inner consciousness that guides our daily lives. Li’s work is quite the contrast, as her chaotically vibrant paintings ruminate on power systems and social traumas, in an attempt to dismantle misconceptions about Asian art in the West. Anastasis is a British sculptor, photographer and filmmaker who harnesses the darker moments life throws to create works of hope, such as his melancholic sculpture im·mor·tal XXXII.
