Takashi Murakami Leads Roppongi Art Night 2022 With a 32-Foot-Tall Doraemon

The three day event will feature 100 events.

Centered around the theme of “Magical Adventure Find Your Art of Wonder in the Town!,” Roppongi Art Night 2022, opening September 17 after a three-year hiatus, will be led by prolific Japanese artist Takashi Murakami. Serving as the lead artist, the three-day event held throughout Roppongi will offer 100 events with 70 participating artists.

Headlining Roppongi Art Night 2022 is Takashi Murakami’s expression of “Magical Adventure” with a 32-foot-tall inflatable Doraemon installed at the Roppongi Hills Arena. The collaboration with Doraemon is continued with a series that sees 12 artists enlisted by Murakami to offer their take on the iconic blue cat-robot. Artists involved include Chiho Aoshima, Otani Workshop, ob, Emi Kuraya, Aya Takano, T9G, TENGAone, Shoko Nakazawa, Yuta Hosokawa, MADSAKI, Mr., and Mori Murata.

Additionally, Murakami has put together an accompanying AR experience centered around two original Doraemon artworks. The augmented reality element of Roppongi Art Night 2022 was realized in cooperation with TikTok.

Roppongi Art Night 2022 lead by Takashi Murakami will be on from September 17-19 at Roppongi Hills Arena, TOKYO MIDTOWN, The National Art Center, Tokyo, and Lapiross Roppongi.
